Hotel General Manager – 2 Properties in Accra, Ghana

DWR Executive Search has been retained to find an exceptional and qualified General Manager with specific and extensive experience in the 4 and 5-star business-style hotel sector. This position is for expatriate applicants ONLY and is based in Accra, Ghana.

Comprising 5 subsidiaries, their three luxury hotels are a major part of their business operation in Ghana, internationally recognised and of a supreme standard. From the outstanding services they provide to the highest levels of comfort, their meticulous attention to detail and their record of excellent customer satisfaction, my client stands out as a premier provider in Ghana’s first-class accommodation, hotel, fine dining and hospitality sector.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

The General Manager is responsible for all operations of two of the Groups boutique business-style hotels, their day-to-day staff management and the wellbeing of the guests. He or she will be an ambassador for the brand and of the Group, their image and high-quality offerings. Providing leadership and strategic planning to all departments in support of each hotel’s service, culture, maximized operations and guest experience, the GM will work very closely with the hotel owners and stakeholders.

YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • Reporting to the Group GM, you will be overseeing all the operations and functions of the two properties whilst ensuring at all times full compliance with operational controls, SOP’s, policies, procedures and service standards.
  • Taking the lead on all key property issues including (but not limited to) capital projects, refurbishment, customer service, cost saving initiatives and the development of improvement actions.
  • Managing the on-going profitability of the hotels, and ensuring revenue and guest satisfaction targets are met and exceeded.
  • Conducting regular briefings and meetings with the heads of departments, and ensuring all decisions are made in the best interests of the hotels, the management, and the guests.
  • Handling of complaints and overseeing service recovery procedures.
  • Preparation, presentation and ultimate achievement of the hotels’ annual Marketing & Sales Plan, and the Operating & Capital Budgets.
  • Providing a highly developed understanding of P&L statements with the ability to react with impactful strategies, and close attention to the daily monitoring of the properties’ business reports and acting on them accordingly.
  • Delivering hotel budget goals and setting other short- and long-term strategic targets whilst ensuring monthly financial outlooks for rooms, F&B, Admin & General are all on target, within budget and accurate.
  • Maximising room yields and hotel revenue through innovative sales practices and yield management programs.
  • Drawing up plans and budget (revenues, costs, etc.) for the owners and stakeholders, and preparing monthly financial report for their attention.
  • Helping in the procurement of operating supplies and equipment and contracting with third-party vendors for essential equipment and services.
  • Delegation and the assignment of work to department staff to deliver consistency of quality service and ensuring standard levels are exceeded, due dates and deadlines are met, and client end-user satisfaction is enhanced.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • A university degree in Hotel Management or similar related field.
  • A clear track record in opening, managing and/or repositioning hotels (of a 4 or 5-star and/or business-style classification).
  • At least 15 to 20 years progressive and continuous experience in the hospitality industry with significant luxury and international exposure.
  • A minimum of 8 years in the same or similar position and with notable success managing more than one property (i.e., a Cluster GM).
  • Excellent computer user skills – Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc), Chrome, and hotel software or property management systems (e.g., Opera)
  • Strong financial knowledge and well-developed admin and problem-solving skills; analytical mindset, attention to detail, very well organised, and a confident decision maker.
  • Leadership, management, motivation and an excellent communicator at all levels, you must enjoy working under pressure in a dynamic environment and be a team player.
  • Flexibility to working hours including weekends, evenings and holidays.

CONDITIONS:

This is an expatriate position, and is offered on a single person status only. The employment package will include a salary of up to USD$6000 per month plus on-site accommodation and benefits . Details will be discussed at the client interview stage. As a senior and important position that carries a high degree of responsibility, it is a prerequisite that applicants possess the required skills and experience to be considered.
